have been responsible for since the development of the TOPS Progam.
Our philosphy regarding the TOPS program is that it promotes stregth
and flexiblity necessary for developmental gymnastics.
TOPS gives a strong basis for the National Team Conditioning Progam.

of Changes in TOP Testing:
This information was given to us today at appx.  2:00 pm. MST on September 20, 2005.

It has been decided to postpone this weekend's National TOP Testing.  The testing will be moved to the weekend of October 21-23.  We will use the exact same schedule as before.  I am asking all clubs that were registered for the testing to send me a note stating that they have received the information and understand the change at gwarren@usa-gymnastics.org.  You can release this information to your TOP clubs that this may affect.

USA Gymnastics postpones 2005 T.J. Max TOPs national testing
For immediate release - September 20, 2005 
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Due to the expected landfall of Hurricane Rita later this week, USA Gymnastics has postponed its 2005 national testing for the T.J. Maxx Talent Opportunity Program (TOPs) that was scheduled for Sept. 23-25 at USA Gymnastics' National Team Training Center in Huntsville, Texas. More than 300 young gymnasts were scheduled to participate in the three-day camp, which has been rescheduled for Oct. 21-23. 

"We believe postponing the camp now rather than waiting to see if Hurricane Rita gains additional strength is the right decision for our athletes, coaches and their parents," said Steve Penny, president of USA Gymnastics. "More than 300 young gymnasts and their coaches and parents from 32 states were scheduled to attend national testing, and we wanted to allow them adequate time to change their travel arrangements." 

The 300-plus gymnasts qualified for the national testing program through state and regional testing earlier this year, which included more than 3,100 gymnasts. Gymnasts advanced based on scores from the preliminary testing for each of the three age groups. T.J. Maxx TOPs helps identify the country's top 9-, 10- and 11-year-old female gymnasts. The top 60-70 gymnasts from the national testing will qualify for the T.J. Maxx National TOPs Training Camp, Dec. 4-6, at the National Team Training Center 

A special note to parents and coaches of national testing participants: 
Be sure to contact your airline and hotel to change your arrangements to the weekend of Oct. 21-23. The same schedule outlined for this weekend will be used in October. Coaches are requested to send Gary Warren an email confirming knowledge of the change in dates. His email address is gwarren@usa-gymnastics.org. 

T.J. Maxx TOPs is a talent search and educational opportunity for female gymnasts, ages 7-11, and their coaches and parents. With a rich, 14-year history, this developmental program has certainly proven itself over the years. Of the current members on the Women's National Team, more than 50 percent were TOPs participants at young ages. In fact Carly Patterson, Courtney Kupets, Chellsie Memmel and Tasha Schwikert of the 2004 silver-medal-winning Olympic Team were TOPs graduates, and each was awarded the National TOPs athlete of the year distinction
