Arizona's 2009 Most Outstanding Gymnast of the
Year
2009 ARIZONA AWARDS BANQUET
This was an exciting year for Carter’s Gymnastics Academy. Both Carter’s
athletes and coaches received several awards at the 2009 AZ State Banquet.
Shelby Edwards was voted Arizona’s
2009 Most Outstanding Gymnast of the Year. Shelby received this award
after placing 2nd at the Junior Olympic Nationals earning her a spot on
the Junior Olympic National Team.
Teammate Brittany Kinal and Margaret
Laughlin were both recognized for their qualification to the Junior Olympic
National Competition. Qualification to this competition is difficult
as only the top seven athletes from the region (Arizona, California, Nevada,
and Utah) qualify.
Alexia Park (Level 7) and Alyssa
Scholl (Level 10) were also recognized for their outstanding performances
at the Arizona State Championship. Alexia (the Level 7 State Champion)
had one of the top All Around Scores of the entire competition regardless
of age scoring an amazing 38.55. Alyssa also won the AZ Level
10 State Championship competition.
PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR!
Coach Jack Carter was awarded Professional
of the Year for his hard work and dedication to the sport over so many
years. Jack has been the Regional Elite Committee Chairman for 6
years. He has been named International Elite Coach of the Year 2
consecutive years and has had several International Elite National Champions
as well as numerous Junior Olympic National Champions. Jack has also
maintained an athlete on the Junior Olympic National Team 5 of the last
6 years (TOP 4 athletes in the country.)

UNBELIEVABLE PERFORMANCE AT JUNIOR
OLYMPIC NATIONALS
Carter’s had an unbelievable
performance at this year’s Junior Olympic National Championship.
Shelby Edwards placed 2nd All Around to earn her a spot on the Junior Olympic
National Team and a place at the 2009 Junior Olympic Training Camp held
at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. Shelby scored
at amazing 38.125 in the All Around. She also placed 4th on Vault
(9.65), 3rd on Uneven Bars (9.475), 4th on Balance Beam (9.475) and 7th
on Floor (9.525.) This was Shelby’s first National Championship!
Teammate Margaret Laughlin also
medaled in her first Junior Olympic National Championship. Margaret
placed 3rd on Floor with a 9.575.
Alyssa Scholl attended the National
Invitational Tournament held in conjunction with this year’s Junior Olympic
National Competition. Athletes qualify to this competition by placing
in the 8th, 9th or 10th position at the Region One competition. Alyssa
placed 9th on Vault, 4th on Bars, 9th on Balance Beam, 3rd on Floor and
6th All Around.

Carter's Gymnastics Academy is owned and operated

They are best known for having coached Olympian
Kristen Maloney and are responsible

level gymnasts.
